About Erika

Birth is a moment, postpartum is forever. -Erika

My name is Erika Davis. I am a South Puget Sound based birth worker with a focus on childbirth education and postpartum. I’ve also been trained and certified as a yoga instructor. I’m a transplant from Brooklyn, NY where I completed my training with Ancient Song Doula Services, an organization focused on training women of color as doulas and making doulas available to parents who may not have considered them before. I spent the first two years of my doula business working with Black and POC families and continue to make myself an advocate for Black birthing people and continue to focus my work on the celebration and affirmation of Black and queer families and people.

I believe that the process of getting pregnant, (in)fertility, labor, birth, and the postpartum period are holy, sacred times that should be honored and parent-centered. My job is to give you honest, evidence-based information that allows you to make the best decisions for your labor, your birth, and your postpartum experience. I offer the families I work with an unbiased and listening ear. I hold space for their biggest fears and deepest anxieties and worries. In short, I will hold space for you to be 100% you. I cannot empower you, but what I can do is uplift you, validate your thoughts and feelings, and challenge you to find your own power. My role in your reproductive journey is to be a guide and it is my honor to witness your rebirth as a parent.

I have experience working with single parents-to-be, parents over 40, partners and poly families. I also have experience working within the queer community, with gender non-conforming and trans birthing people, within communities of color, for birthing people for whom English is their second language, and with undocumented citizens. I am passionate about birth education for all, including those who may feel they are not adequately represented by traditional birthing services. I aim to establish and maintain safety throughout our work together, and I fully support Black families, people of color, LGBTQIA families and individuals, single people, and couples. I also have knowledge and experience supporting culturally-specific birth practices of observant Jewish and Muslim families.

My work was featured on NPR's Next Generation Radio.

When I'm not doing birth work you can find me in the spring and summer months working in my front yard garden with my wife or at a local Tacoma yoga studio taking classes. I’ve recently been making pottery and sewing my own clothing. I'm obsessed with cooking, which makes the gardening come in handy, and we feel really lucky to open our home to friends and family one Friday night a month for Shabbat dinner.

As of August 2021, I am NO LONGER DOING BIRTH DOULA WORK. My work is solely focused on Postpartum Care Support, Childbirth Education, and Training.
