Whole Body Pregnancy Childbirth Education Training

Whole Body Pregnancy Childbirth Educator Training

What if we truly prepared people for birth; helping them to understand the various ways that babies are born from a comprehensive, affirming perspective?

What if we prepared people for what happens after babies are born. Like, really prepared them. What if we prepared them for all that is wonderful as well as all that is hard.
What if child birth education celebrated all of the fantastic ways families are created, the beautiful constellations of relationships, and the fantastic ways that people become parents?

What if we didn’t just prepare folks for the physical changes, but the emotional, spiritual, and mental changes as well; the relationship changes with ourselves and those we parent with?

What if we didn’t just include the various ways that families are structured, but myriad ways we create family?

What if we stopped being polite and start getting real?

This is Whole Body Pregnancy Childbirth Educator Training.

WHY WHOLE BODY PREGNANCY CHILDBIRTH EDUCATOR TRAINING?

When I created my CBE class for pregnant folks, I did so because I found that the majority of offerings for pregnant folks were lacking. They weren’t affirming of Black or Brown folks, they didn’t celebrate fat bodies, they didn’t affirm queer people who give birth. The more training courses I took, the more I realized that I wanted to not only create a curriculum for pregnant people and families but for doulas, birth workers, and educators as well.

Whole Body Pregnancy, LLC. Childbirth Educator Training is rooted in the idea that every pregnant person deserves care that is affirming, loving and honest. It's about the honor and recognition of the mental and spiritual aspects of pregnancy, labor, birth, and the fourth trimester. It's about creating rituals to honor the transition to parenthood and looking to what we know in our bones about how to nourish and heal the postpartum. It’s about how we prepare and help non-gestational parents and siblings for this shift in identity.

Whole Body Pregnancy aims to bridge the gap between thinking of pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum as separate experiences, and instead views the entire pregnancy spectrum, including fertility, miscarriage, abortion, and pregnancy loss, as one. Whole Body Pregnancy is about examining who we are as birth workers to help better inform who we are for the families we work with.

Whole Body Pregnancy is unapologetically pro-Black, pro-Abortion, pro-Queer. Whole Body Pregnancy works towards anti-racism and centers Queer, Black, Indigenous, and POC teachers to help disrupt the birth world, which is mostly white-lead.

This is spiritual work.

This is physical work.

This is activism work.

This is anti-racism work.

This is Whole Body Pregnancy.

How Do I Know If This is the Right Training For Me?

Whole Body Pregnancy Training is multi-dimensional - we will learn about how to prepare folks for birth and postpartum, while simultaneously working on our own healing. Many of us who are called to this work are people who have been pushed to the margins, we have been trained to make our voices small, to take up less space, to hide our shadows, to hide our magic. Through our time together, I hope that we can lean into our sacred purpose.

If you’re ready to be honest about labor, birth, and postpartum.
If you’re interested in how we care for birth givers, mothers, and non-gestational parents and families.
If you want to help heal your community.
If you understand the importance of ritual for times of transformation and transition
If you want to work more closely with sacred energy.
If you understand the divine nature of all who hold life.
This might be the right training for you.

Whole Body Pregnancy Training centers anti-racism and reproductive justice. We do this work with an understanding of how systemic racism negatively impacts Black people who give birth, people who are queer, people who don’t speak English as their first language, people with disabilities. We do this work from an understanding that we, as birth workers, also have our own implicit biases that we need to uncover, explore and understand. It’s my belief that Whole Body Pregnancy is a process of individual continual learning. I have no desire for birth workers to think and work the way that I do, therefore Whole Body Pregnancy isn’t interested in having replicas of Erika Davis after each training cohort. Rather, I’m interested in helping birth workers discover what’s important to them as individuals, to help folks figure out the gaps in their communities that they may be able to fill, to understand that we’re not meant to be the “perfect” birth workers, but that we are human beings who have the privilege of witnessing the transition to parenthood. And with that privilege comes responsibility.

Whole Body Pregnancy Training asks us to dig deep into what we know and understand. It asks us to look into the parts of ourselves we want to hide or have been conditioned to hide. It asks us not to borrow from the traditions of others, but to use what we learn to explore our own traditions. This work is done in community with the help of guest teachers who are queer or people of the Global Majority. We do this work virtually but live with interactions and discussions. We do this work with the understanding that I am not the expert, just someone who is sharing knowledge and I encourage communal sharing of knowledge as we do this work together.

If you’re interested in doing personal work. If you’re interested in addressing and combatting white supremacy in birth work. If you’re interested in forging your own path as a birth worker, this is the training for you.

Ultimately, only you can answer if this is the right training for you.
