Books About Birth Written by Black Folks

These are three of my favorite books about birth written by Black authors. And while I DO get a kick back if you purchase using my links, I own these books, have read them all, and recommend them to folks who take birth worker training from me.

The First is Birthing Liberation by Sabia Wade, AKA The Black Doula.
FULL DISCLOSURE, Sabia Wade is a dear friend, mentor, and general bad-ass woman. I have to start with her book. In it you will find the layout and framework for reproductive justice and how we can use it to shift not only the narrative for birth but for society.

Nurture by Erica Chidi Cohen has been on my training recommendation list for years. Erica’s ability to break down the importance of rest and restoration, thoughtful journal prompts, and realness help make this book both easy-to-read and informatiive.

The First-Time Parent's Childbirth Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide for Building Your Birth Plan (First-Time Mom's Handbook) by Dr. Stephanie Mitchell is great for folks that like the facts and information spread out before them. Whether deciding home birth or hospital, help with to-dos, important checklists this is a great tool for parents-to-be as well as birth workers.
